can u tell that I really want(ed) to be an ethologist but chose art because it pays better or what I chose this username when I was like 21… kinda wanna change it, but it gives me an excuse to go off about all of this when someone asks me what it means. orrrr read the book he wrote that led me to choose this username, The Great Animal Orchestra : Finding the Origins of Music in the World’s Wild Places.if you’re near Massachusetts in the US pleaaase go to his immersive exhibit on the subject!.you can watch Bernie Krause (the guy that coined a lot of these terms) give a TED talk,.this planet is becoming a very quiet place. the effect industrialization & capitalist development has had on the earth’s sounds is so depressing. Lastly there are anthrophonies: human-produced sounds like car traffic, construction, music. These are clearly where we got the idea for music from in the first place, as there are many correlations to soundscapes & and the particular rhythms in music made by people indigenous to said biomes all over the world. There are also geophonies: nonliving natural sounds like thunderstorms, wind, rivers, ocean waves. It’s an incredible way of measuring the health of an ecosystem, as healthy ones will have beautifully complex rhythms and many noise-making members, not unlike a symphony. Biophonies are the sounds produced by living things: wolf howls, cicada buzzing, birdsong, dolphin calls, etc. #if i really showed photo evidence i'd have to delete my account #but it's truly a recurring thing at this point #comic #comics #funny #humor #faces #design #art #dating #love #mariah-rose marie 2 weeks agoĪnswering this 94 years later, and always meant to answer it in a comic form, but alas…Ī biophony is 1 of 3 terms generally used to categorize sound in soundscape ecology.
